Change of update strategy for the product GMG ColorProof
Since the release of ColorProof 5.10 in April 2018 we have started to provide you with regular patches. The patches are released every 2 to 4 weeks. This ensures that fixes for reported issues reach the user faster than before.
Previously, Service Releases contained all fixes, but were not released frequently. The new patches are smaller, which reduces the installation and downtime period.
The patches are cumulative: a new patch contains all optimizations of the previous patches. You only have to install the last patch of a ColorProof version to get your system up to date.
Since ColorProof version 5.12, you are notified via a pop-up of any newly available software patches. These can be installed automatically but agreeing to the update. Please be aware that updating may cause the system to reboot.
Should you decide not to install via the auto update, you can follow the step below at any time.
Creating an Environment Backup
Creating an environment back up is recommended in all software upgrade scenarios. This will protect your system should anything occur during the process.
In ColorProof, create an environment backup (.env file) by navigating to System > Environment Backup > Create.
Choose the destination folder and click Save.
In case of any database inconsistencies, the backup will not complete. Resolve the errors as guided by the backup wizard and then attempt to create the backup again.
Do not upgrade ColorProof without a successful environment backup.
Copy the .env file to an external location.
Manual Patch Installation
Before you apply the patch, check that you are already on the latest major version the patch is intended for. If you are on an older version, follow the instructions in the article below instead:
The first step is to download the latest installer packages. Go to the latest GMG ColorProof installer.
If you are running a previous version, access this via the drop-down next to the version number.
Access to software downloads is not restricted.
Once on the Download page, navigate to the 'Service Update' and select the download button. Once finished, you will have an installer file to run and start the update.
Close the ColorProof window by clicking the cross in the top right corner.
Then, shut down the services by right-clicking the ColorProof icon in the system tray and choosing 'Shutdown'.
Running the Patch
If any patches are available for download, these should be installed next. Open the previously extracted patch installer folder and double-click the Patch_xxx.exe file.
When prompted, click Update.
When complete, click Finish.
Double-click the ColorProof shortcut icon on the desktop to launch ColorProof.
