The error 'Selected Measuring Device does not match the installed one' in ColorProof is often an indication that the ILS unit inside the SpectroProofer has failed, or the wrong backing plate is installed (e.g. black instead of white).
Checking the ILS status
On the printer panel, press the right arrow to open the Menu, then search for the relevant options depending on your printer.
Epson 7890/9890/7900/9900
- Option Setup > SpectroProofer > Status Information > ILS Calibration Status / Backing Color
Epson P6000/P7000/P8000/P9000
- Option Setup > SpectroProofer > SProofer Status > Backing Color
Epson 4900
- SpectroProofer > Status Information > Calibration Status / Backing Color
Epson P5000
- SpectroProofer > SProofer Status > Calibration Status / Backing Color
The calibration status should read 'successful' and the backing color should read 'white'.
If these show 'failed' and 'grey', there is a fault with your ILS unit.
Please try re-seating the ILS unit, cleaning the backing plate and white tile, and restarting your printer.
If the 'failed' and 'grey' status persists, please contact the support team via a new ticket.
If these show 'successful' and 'black', this normally means you have the wrong backing plate installed. Please install the white backing plate instead of the black one.
Cleaning your SpectroProofer
The SpectroProofer can be easily removed for cleaning of the backing plate and white tile. Please see our other articles in this section on how to replace the ILS unit, as these also give a visual guide for taking off the SpectroProofer and putting it back.
This normally involves removing power and USB cables and lifting the mounter off the printer.
You should be able to see the white backing plate and calibration tile on the printer. These can be removed easily and should be cleaned with a damp cloth to bring back to a smooth white finish.
If the lens of the ILS unit is also dirty, this can be cleaned using a dry cotton bud.
Once the cleaning has been carried out you can place the mounter back in the printer and check the status again to confirm the clean was successful. If the cleaning is not successful then a replacement ILS unit will be needed. Please contact us to order your new ILS unit.
